As I designed this crochet beginner cowl, I was thinking of the lovely lady who was the recipient. Let me tell you the story.

Free Crochet Beginner Cowl pattern in three sizes

I have named this crochet beginner cowl ‘Moments in Paris’ cowl. The idea came to me out of the blue. We had arrived at our hotel in Paris three hours before our check-in time. We were tired, and already cold from the unexpected coolness of the Paris weather; well, I didn’t expect it so I dressed lightly for the 2-hour flight. By the time we arrived the hotel I just wanted to lay down. Alas, we had to wait till check-in time.

We decided to take a walk around the hotel to get a feel of the place. When we arrived back an hour or so later, we spoke to one of the ladies at the front desk. She was very courteous as she attended to us, answered our questions, suggested places we could go to eat, gave us some snacks and refreshments while we waited a little more. About thirty minutes before our due check-in time, she told us we could check in. Oh my! I was so relieved.

That first experience made my whole stay at the hotel beautiful, I felt comfortable and welcomed. Even though I did not like the weather, I enjoyed every other experience of being in Paris. A few days after our arrival, the thought dropped in my mind “why not crochet something for her”? My first response was “great! why not?”, but then I started to think, we are strangers and I had no idea what to make, I did not know if she would like whatever I made, AND I had a larger on-going project on hand. Four days before our departure from Paris, I started to crochet the cowl.

I’m very fortunate I chose a quick project, I completed it in two days and made one in a cowl size. Then I thought, why not just make another in an Infinity size? That’s how I arrived at three different sizes for this beautiful and minimalist Moments in Paris Cowl. If you are a texture loving crocheter like me, you will find the Cosea Infinity Scarf quite delightful to make.

The Moments in Paris cowl follows the same stitch pattern as the beginner baby headband pattern, but there are a couple of different details that make this crochet beginner cowl stand out. So, how what size will you make?

I decided to share the Moments in Paris Cowl as part of the Holiday Stashdown CAL with the Undergroundcratfer. Visit the site to see all the wonderful crochet patterns you can make for the coming holiday season.
