Quick Crochet Basket- Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Craftees, it’s time to crochet something new. A crochet for home project, a nice, little quick crochet basket pattern that’s handy all around the house.

This boho crochet basket pattern is relatively easy and quick to crochet. The contrast colour accents add a carefree vibe to an other wise bland design. This crochet basket can be used anywhere in the home, the office or craft space.

One of the things I really like about this cute boho basket is the use of left-over yarn. I am always thinking of small project ideas to make with left over yarn. Some of the ones on Yarn Craftee are bean stitch cardholder, tapestry crochet bag, drawstring pouch to mention a few.

The Yarn

This crochet basket pattern uses two strands of cotton DK yarn held together. However, that is not necessary if you have cotton worsted weight yarn. Unless you want a thicker basket.

QUICK CROCHET BASKET PATTERN

Sizes (diameter/height): small- 5”/2.7”, large- 7”/2.7”

Gauge: Round 7 diameter = 4”

Material:

• 255-450mtrs, Cotton DK weight, medium 3 yarn. This pattern uses Performance yarn, you can substitute with Debbie Bliss Cotton DK in colours of choice.
• 4.5mm  and 4mm hooks
• Tapestry Needle
• Stitch markers

Stitches/Abbreviation

• HDC- half double crochet
• SC- single crochet
• CH- chain
• SL ST- slip stitch
• BLO- back loop only (in the 3^rd loop of the HDC)

Notes:

• The Pattern uses U.S terms
• SC at the end of round does not count as a stitch
• Start the round in the same stitch where you have the SC
• Place stitch markers in the SC as you work around

PATTERN

Form magic ring or chain 4, sl st in the 1^st ch to join.

Round 1: HDC 8 in ring, join with SC in 1^st st.- 8

Round 2: 2HDC in 1^st st (same stitch you made SC) and in each st around. Join with SC in 1^st st- 16

Round 3: HDC in 1^st st, 2HDC in next st, *HDC in next st, 2HDC in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with SC in 1^st st- 24

Round 4: HDC in 1^st st and next st, 2HDC in next st, HDC in 2 sts, 2HDC in next. Repeat from * around. Join with SC in 1^st st- 32

Round 5: HDC in 1^st st, and next 2 sts, 2HDC in next st, *HDC in 3 sts, 2HDC in next. Repeat from * around. Join with SC in 1^st st- 40

Round 6: HDC in 1^st st, and next, 2HDC in next, *HDC in 4 sts, 2HDC in next. Repeat from * till last 2 sts, HDC in last sts. Join with SC in 1^st st- 48

Round 9: HDC in 1^st st, and 6 sts. 2HDC in next st, *HDC in next 7 sts, 2HDC in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with SC in 1^st st- 72

Round 10: HDC in 1^st st, and 3 sts, 2HDC in next, *HDC in 8 sts, 2HDC in next st. Repeat from * till last 4 sts, HDC in last sts. Join with SC in 1^st st- 80

EVEN ROUNDS

Round 11: HDC in BLO of 1^st st, HDC In BLO of each st around. Join with SC in 1^st st

Round 12: HDC in 1^st st and each st around. Join with SC in 1^st st

Round 13: HDC in 1st st and next 5 sts, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, HDC in next 6 sts, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, repeat from * around. Join with SC to 1^st st

In parentheses, 7, is for the smaller basket

Round 14: HDC in BLO of 1^st st and next, HDC in 6 sts, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, repeat from * (7) 9 times, HDC in last 6 sts. Join with SC to 1^st st

Round 15: HDC in 1^st st and next, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, HDC in 6 sts, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, repeat from * (7) 9 times, HDC in last 4 sts. Join with SC to 1^st st

Round 16: HDC in 1^st st and next 3 sts, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, *HDC in 6 sts, HDC in BLO of next 2 sts, repeat from * (7) 9 times HDC in last 2 sts. Join with SC to 1^st st

Round 17: HDC in 1^st st and each st around. Join with SC in 1^st st

Round 18: HDC in BLO of 1^st st, HDC in BLO of each st around. Sl st in 1^st st. snip yarn

TRIMMING- with 4mm hook

It is time to work into the the ‘ribbing’ created on rows 13-16.

– Turn basket upside down, attach yarn in any of the ribbing on the 1^st row (previously 4^th row when basket was not upside down). See photo for guide.

– The steps are all done in a continuous round, no snipping yarn until all the ‘ribbings’ have been worked into.

• step 1- join yarn in, chain 5,
• step 2- Sl st in the next ribbing at the side, chain 5
• step 3- sl st in 1^st ribbing on the next row, chain 5,
• step 4- sl st in the next ribbing at the side, chain 5
• step 5- sl st in 1st ribbing on the next row, chain 5,
• step 6- sl sl in the next ribbing at the side, chain 5
• step 7- sl st in 1st ribbing on the next row, ch 5
• step 8- sl sl in the next ribbing at the side, chain 5
• step 9- connect to the next set of ribbing on the 1st row

Repeat the entire steps until all the ‘ribbings’ have been slip stitched into. Finish the round with slip stitch in the same place you began. Snip yarn

With the basket still upside down, join yarn again in the last st of ‘ribbing on row 17. *Chain 5, sl st in next st. Repeat from * around. End with slip stitch in the same place you began.

And your boho basket is done! Enjoy it!
