I have named this crochet cardigan Mel’s cosy crochet cardigan after my good friend Melissa. Melissa came into my life when I did not know I needed a friend to pull me out of my shell; she is a gift to me. We have not been friends for long, but I feel so close to her, like I have know her for a long time. Do you have a friend like that?

These days, I find that creating designs with a person in mind adds more meaning to my projects; knowing that the item I am making is going to bless someone makes me put even more heart into it.
You can style this crochet cardigan over jeans or a skirt, leave it open or closed. To close it, you just criss-cross the button loops; the right button goes in the left button hole and vice-versa.

CONSTRUCTION
This Mel’s cos crochet cardigan is made in rows and parts that are joined together to form a whole. It is pretty simple to make with repetitive rows and simple stitches. I have divided it into seven parts to make it easier to follow the steps below:
- Part 1: back panel
- Part 2: right front panel
- Part 3: left front panel
- Part 4: sleeves
- Part 5: join all parts
- Part 6: connect front panels and shoulder
- Part 7- pockets
- Lastly- Block! Block! Block! This makes a word of difference for your cardigan. If you used the same yarn as in this pattern, your cardigan will turn out really soft and it will be much more comfortable to wear.
‘WORKING INTO THE THIRD LOOP’
Working into the third loop of a Half Double Crochet stitch can be confusing for some. This short video shows you exactly what loop to work into for this pattern.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
If you committed to this project only, you an finish it in two weeks. However, if there are other projects you need to do, it could take three to four weeks to complete. The good thing about this ribbed crochet cardigan is that it uses aran weight yarn, so your yarn will be flying off your hook in no time.

BLOCK YOUR CARDIGAN- ways to do this:
- Rinse and spin it in the washing machine, stretch the parts a bit and pin it down to dry. In the absence of a washing machine, dip it in water till all parts are soaked, squeeze out excess water and pin down to dry.
- If the ends are curled, place a steam iron over the curled parts (NOT ON TOP, JUST A LITTLE GAP BETWEEN THE IRON AND THE FABRIC), move the iron back and forth over the edges till they straighten.
- If no steam iron, sprinkle water on the curled parts, place iron over the parts (same as with the steam iron), move it back and forth till the heat from the iron straightens the edges.

My next project
I really like your sweater, and it will be on of the projects I will try to make. Thank you so much for sharing.
I hope you get to make it. Thank you.
This is exactly what I was looking for in a crochet cardigan! Sideways construction is the best and resembles knitting. Thank you for including pockets too!
I’m happy to share. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about this cardigan.
Nice cardigan, what are the measurements for each size.
Thank you.
