Hello Craftees, in this C2C Crochet for Beginners, you will learn to make your first corner to corner crochet square. Corner to Corner Crochet is one of the most interesting stitch techniques you will find in the crochet world.

C2C Crochet for Beginners post

THE BLOCKS

C2C Crochet consists of blocks that are built on on each row. The more blocks made, the bigger the corner to corner crochet piece. The blocks in C2C crochet are usually made with the double crochet stitch, however, the half double crochet stitch can be used as well. Each block consists of 4 stitches- 3 double crochets and 1 chain 3- this chain 3 serves as the cement between each block. If you were using half double crochet stitch, it would be 3 HDCs and 1 chain 2.

THE SHAPES

C2C crochet can be made into three basic shapes- the triangle, the square and rectangle (sometimes an imperfect rectangle) shapes. In fact, all C2C crochet shapes are triangles first before turning them into the other two shapes. C2C crochet can also be combined with other stitches to create more interesting pieces.

THE CHART

Usually, the C2C crochet is done with a chart. If you followed a C2C pattern, the designer would provide this chart to follow along. Also take note, that there is a right side and wrong side of the chart, but that only comes into play if there are colour changes through most of the chart and if other stitches will be combined along the edges of the C2C crochet piece. At this moment, that is not something to worry about, once you get the hang of C2C crochet, you will understand the next steps better. Little steps to the destination.

WHAT CAN YOU MAKE WITH C2C CROCHET?

You should get really excited at this part, because you can make just about anything you can imagine with C2C crochet.

Let’s start with the obvious, blanket. Then shawls and wraps, even softies can be made from C2C crochet. What about cardigans, ruanas and wall decor? As I said, if you can imagine it, you can make it.

Rows 4-10: you will repeat row 3 until you have 10 blocks on each of the 3 sides of the row.

You just completed making a C2C crochet triangle. If you wanted to make it bigger and wider, all you have to do is continue the row repeats until you get to the side you want.

Any time you chain 6 to begin a new row of blocks, you are increasing– this is what makes your piece bigger and wider. So, now that you have made your C2C triangle, let’s turn it into a square. Please refer back to the chart.

Continuing from the last block, turn

Row 11: slip stitch into each st. across and into the *chain 3, ch 3, 3DC into the ch 3 space, join to the next ch 3 space, repeat from * to the last ch 3 space, join into the space. Turn

Rows 12-19: after each turn, repeat row 11.

And that’s it. You just completed a Corner to Corner Crochet Square, now, let’s turn those squares into a d.i.y storage for your space.
