Puff Stitch Classic Granny Square Crochet Pattern

Hello Craftee, I bring you a classic crochet granny square pattern that you can be adventurous with. If you are familiar with making granny squares you will find this crochet square easy.

Classic Granny Square Crochet pattern

And if, like me, granny squares (in all forms) are not your thing, you will find that you can make this square into other projects. So, do not limit your skills, explore and enjoy the process because this square is turning into a wrap (with pocket). Doesn’t that make you excited?

I have been dreaming up a lot of larger designs that have square(s) incorporated into them, and I am eager to share those designs with you in time.

The first large crochet square I designed is the Helix Inspired 12 inch square. This square was in collaboration with Heather of Unravelled Mitten, where different designers create a square that are all joined together at the end of the crochet along. It was a wonderful pattern to design and it kind of opened my mind to the versatility of squares.

This granny inspired puff stitch crochet square pattern is the second large square I have designed. It measures around 11.5 inches and stretches to 12 inches after blocking.

You can turn this Granny Square into the Square in a Wrap Shawl as seen above.

  • This crochet square is a like a never-ending pattern that you can keep making bigger, should you decide to make the square bigger, repeat rounds with Main colour and Contrast colour.
  • You can decided to make the Main colour rounds in increments of two rounds or stick with 6 rounds of main colour, while the contrat colour is 1 round.
  • The contrast colour rounds will be a repeat of Round 3 and Round 8- (note the difference at the corners).
