Crochet tops are one of the items I like to crochet, though they are not always the easiest with sizing and all. I especially like when I design them in lighter weight yarn; the drape and stretch make it worth it. The chain loop top is one of the stretchier crochet tops I have designed.

I have named this easy crochet top Marynes Summer Top after the lady who inspired it. For the first time I designed my initial crochet garment in a plus size before sizing it down; usually, it is the other way round. My model wears extra large clothing and I figured if I could make one in a larger size it would be easier to make a smaller size.

Really, this crochet top pattern is easy to make. The only part that you might find a little tedious is joining the sides, but this pattern tutorial will help you make one. I decided at the last minute to close the sides with a darker shade of the body colour, isn’t the contrast is really lovely?

From the back panel, join yarn in stitch (the next stitch after the corner)

Round 2: Ch 1, Sl st in SC and each st. around; including the Ch 1. Join into Ch 1, snip yarn, weave in tails.
Trim Sides: with contrast colour yarn.

Row 1- chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), SC in 1st st row, *ch 1, SC in next st row, repeat from * across. Take note of the joining at the shoulder and make stitches in both the front panel and back panel. At the end of the row, chain 1, slip stitch into bottom of last st on the row. Ch 1, turn. Do not snip yarn.
NOW MARK THE ARMHOLE
- mark both the front and back panels.
- use the joining at the shoulder to determine how many stitches you have at the armhole
- ensure that you have the same number of stitches both in front and back
Row 2- Slip st in FLO of 1st ch 1, sl st in FLO of SC and each st (including chain 1) across till the marked armhole at the FRONT of the top.
Hold both sides together, *slip stitch in FLO of next stitch on back panel and BLO of next stitch on front panel, repeat from * across the row. Snip yarn, weave in tails.
Side B– with back of top facing up, join CC yarn in bottom of 1st stitch of row 1
REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS TO MARK THE ARMHOLE.
Row 2- Slip st in BLO of 1st ch 1, sl st in BLO of SC and each st (including chain 1) across till the marked armhole at the FRONT of the top, FLO in next st and each st across till the marked armhole at the BACK of the top.
