Sometimes it seems like mini crochet is quicker and easier, that is not always the case, as you would see with this mini crochet pouch pattern. That is not to say that this is a hard project, it just follows a little more intricacy due to the beaded parts (which is optional) and the taller stitches used.

One thing I really like about this mini crochet pouch is how elegant it looks. It is one of those projects you look back to and admire often and it makes a great gift item too.

DO I REALLY NEED TO USE BEADS?

The short answer is NO you d o not have to, that can be skipped altogether. The long answer is that using beads gives it that classic look. Really, the choice is yours whether to use beads or not. If you asked me though, I would encourage you to use beads, just to try something differently from the norm, but, you didn’t ask, so there goes. Lol!

CONSTRUCTION

This mini crochet pouch with beads is worked in a spiral round the first six rounds, then we begin to join each round when we start ‘dropping’ beads (dropping beads is explained in the pattern).

Finished Size: 3.5″ wide by 4” tall

Materials:

  • Mercerised cotton, Fingering weight (1) yarn or any yarn of choice. Substitute with this
  • Seed beads (72), something like this. Of course, if you use a bigger yarn weight, you’ll need to use bigger beads that can string on it.
  • 3mm hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Stitches/Abbreviations:

  • SC- single crochet
  • DC-double crochet
  • DTR- double treble crochet
  • CH- chain
  • SL ST- slip stitch
  • FSC- foundation single crochet

Special stitch- DTR/TRTR: How to crochet the double treble crochet

Yarn over three times, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull out a loop- 5 loops now on hook. (*yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 4 times.

Tip: When making the 2nd set of the DTR/TRTR, turn the position of the pouch so that the bottom of the pouch is facing away from you, and the opening is facing you. You will find it easier to make the stitch this way. (See video tutorial on Yarn Craftee Youtube channel for guide).

Notes:

  • Chain 1 and 2 do not count as stitches. So start your rounds in same stitch as where you join.
  • This pattern is worked in the round.
  • Rounds 1-6 are worked in spiral round, so always place stitch marker in last stitch of round
  • This instruction, SC in 5, bead, SC simply means SC in 5 stitches, drop bead in next stitch, SC in next stitch
