INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME- Parisienne Puff

For some reason, this chunky crochet beret reminds me of roman architecture, those strong columns and intricate designs; reminiscent of times past. I imagine strolling down the street, wearing this beret, with a brown checkered dress that has a slim top and a billowing bottom, matched with black kitten heels, and a coat. Can you just picture it? So, I named it the Parisienne Puff crochet beret.

YARN TO USE

It is important to use the right kind of yarn for the Parisienne Puff chunky crochet beret. The pattern uses aran weight yarn, so be sure that the yarn label mentions that or at least that the yarn is ‘fatter’ than a regular worsted weight yarn but less thicker than a regular chunky yarn.

I know, it sounds confusing, so I have put links in the ‘materials’ area so you can make a selection. I also recommend using an antipilling yarn- yarn that does not ‘grow’ furs with use.

MAKE A CHUNKY CROCHET BERET -FREE PATTERN

Skill level: Intermediate

Gauge: 4.2” across by the 5^th round

Size/ Diameter/ to fit head circ:

Small- (child size age 4-8) / 19-20.5 inches / 10 inches across

Medium- (age 9-13) / 20.5-21.5 inches /10.5 inches across

Large- (age 14- Adult) / 22-23 / 11.5 inches across

You’ll need:

• 155-230 meters, Aran weight yarn. This pattern uses Scheepjes Chunky Monkey, (100g/116m) . Substitute with Stylecraft Special Aran (100g/196m)
• 5.5mm hook
• Tapestry Needle
• Stitch marker

Stitches/Abbrevation:

• SC- single crochet
• DC- double crochet
• FPSC- front post single crochet
• BPSC- back post single crochet
• SC2TOG- single crochet 2 together OR single crochet decrease
• DC2TOG- double crochet 2 together OR double crochet decrease
• CH- chain
• ST- stitch
• YO- yarn over
• DNT- do not turn
• Special Stitch– Puff stitch- (YO, go into stitch, YO pull out a loop) 3 times in the same stitch, YO pull through all loops on hook. Ch 1.

Notes:

• The pattern is written in U.S terms
• Chain 2 and chain 1 at the beginning of round do not count as stitches
• The 1^st stitch begins in the same space as the place you joined. When you turn, the 1^st stitch begins in the last stitch of the previous round. Example, Round 3 begins in the last DC stitch of Round 2.
• The Ch 1 after the Puff stitch COUNTS AS A STITCH, unless otherwise stated
