*this pattern was previously published on loopinglymade.com, now craft-her.com as Lakers Market Tote. However, this is the most recent updated pattern.

One thing I like about crochet bags is the many ways and designs they can be made in. There are so may stitch designs they can be made from that one never needs run out of ideas on a design to make.
This crochet tote bag has a reversible design, it can be used as a carry all for your books, devices, laundry, etc. It can also be used as a market bag; the choice is yours.
Construction- the bag is designed in three parts; the body, the side strips and the handles. The strips are joined by slip slip stitches while the handles are sewn on to the body of the bag.

Assemble
Trim- with 4.5mm hook
Notes-
– the wrong side of the Crossed DCs is the front of the tote
-fold the piece in half so that the right side is facing out, mark the 5th stitches on each sides.
– the Ch 2 is done over the contrast colour rows
Side A- Row 1:
Join CC in 1st st row (the SC row), ch 1, SC in next st row (the Crossed DCs), ch 1, *SC in next row, ch 1, repeat from * 4 more times, SC in last st (the Crossed DCs) row, ch 2.
[SC in next st row, ch 1] twice, SC in last st row, ch 2.
SC in next st row (the Crossed DCs), ch 1, *SC in next row, ch 1, repeat from * 12 more times, SC in last st (Crossed DCs) row, ch 2.
[SC in next st row, ch 1] twice, SC in last st row, ch 2.
SC in next st row (the Crossed DCs), ch 1, *SC in next row, ch 1, repeat from * 5 more times, sl st in last st row. Ch 1, turn
Row 2:
Notes-
- SC into the same st row on Row 1 (this means you will make an SC over the previous SC).
- Ch 2 over the ch 2 on Row 1
SC in 1st st row, *ch 1 space, SC over SC in next st row, repeat across making ch 2 over previous ch 2. Do not snip yarn.
Join 1st side panel
continue from the last st, ch 1, slip st in 1st st and next 3 sts, hold the side panel to the body of tote, slip st through both loops of tote and side panel all around, slip st in last 4 sts on the opposite side. Snip yarn.
Side B- Row 1: turn tote so that the right side of Crossed DCs is facing out, repeat the steps on side A, join 2nd side panel, snip yarn weave in all tails.
Join Handles
With the wrong side of the Crossed DC facing out, pass handle through the 1st ch 2 space, align handles with the contrast colour rows on the body of the tote, sew handle to body of tote. (see video tutorial above on best way to do this).
Your tote will apear lopsided; this is due to the direction of the crossed DC stitches, and this is OK. Even though the wrong side of the crossed DC has been designated as the right side of the tote, you can easily use the reverse side too.
Enjoy your tote bag!
